PROPOSED EXTENSION TO THE AGRICULTURE LABORATORY BUILDING (ALB) JKUAT. FUNDED BY JICA AND JKUAT.
This project involved elements of conservation as it was necessary for the extended structure to read as one with the existing while creating additional connectivity using a ramp in between the old and the new. Environmental concerns such as natural ventilation, day lighting and thermal comfort have come out so exceptionally well in the completed building despite the large spans. This project also required structurally bypassing the existing numerous manholes on the ground on one side and incorporating an existing concrete walkway right in the middle of the new building. The manhole area became a plaza, currently being used as a preferred study area as well as a large exam invigilation area especially during this COVID season.
